Too many murders, not enough sugar.

April 13, 2012

Last week in Sunday School we were talking about how our spirit should control our body. We can be in control of ourselves and overcome temptations, things like that. So our teacher asked us to think of something that would be really difficult for us to do - or not do - for a whole week that would prove our spirit controls our body. I decided to give up bad sugars - candy, brownies, ice cream. And as much as I've been missing my ice cream, I was doing so great! Until... Justin. punk.

Last night four of us from work went to see The Hunger Games. Halfway through the movie Justin leaves, then comes back with Starbursts. I don't have an uncontrollable love for Starbursts or anything so it wasn't a huge temptation - I just seriously forgot. I guess I was way too into the movie. Don't even worry, you can keep reading to find out what I thought about it. Justin forgot too though, I had told him earlier this week my plan to give up sugar. So I ate two Starbursts and then about ten minutes later I realized what I had done and freaked out on him as much as I could in a movie theater. He felt really bad, but it's okay. I'll just start over!

Okay, the movie. I haven't read the books, but I knew enough of the story. Mostly thanks to Molly. The idea has always kind of bothered me, but not as much as it did once I was actually watching the movie. Obviously I realize it's all fiction, but hello? It's about teenagers trying to kill each other. I know it's not their choice, and some of the characters - tributes - aren't exactly okay with it. But some of them don't seem to have any problem whatsoever. Seriously? You're hunting helpless twelve year olds. It's all really bizarre and really disturbing. And all the people just sitting at home watching it on tv? sick. Reality tv is really only okay with me if you're dancing, singing, or Ty Pennington.

So I might still read the book to see how I feel about that. It's strange too because I thought it was a quality movie. Couldn't they just squirt each other with water? So many murders. bleh.

Oh, but I will admit to crying twice: when Katniss and Primrose were saying goodbye, and when Rue died. I love everything about Katniss. And Peeta is great and all, you can be on his team if you want. But Liam Hemsworth is attractive, and I really need to get my hands on a copy of The Last Song.

Speaking of squirting water and murder, Justin and I are after each other in the Creamery Assassin game. It's about to get real tomorrow.

Also, I saw this on a girl's facebook status yesterday: "I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you." YES. Sometimes as much as you try, in the end that's just it.

And lastly, Illinois needs to teach Utah how to have thunderstorms. This morning was chilly and overcast. Then this afternoon we went from rain to hail to snow in about ten minutes. Now we're back to chilly and overcast. I love thunderstorms. I never should have gotten my hopes up.

Good luck with the sugar fast. I'm glad you're doing it for spiritual purposes and not because of the "sugar is toxic" myth.

About those thunderstorms, we haven't had any this spring. Major disappointment.

I haven't seen the movie or read the books; for the same reasons I guess. The whole premis is too disturbing to me.

And I too am looking forward to some good thunderstorms... one of the perks of living in Illinois :)

And I will never give up sugar... completely. You always were much stronger than I am.
