Of Autumn and College and Grace.

October 12, 2012

Hey, everyone - I left campus at 3:55 today! It's a 10/11/12 miracle!
I feel as if I'm always there so late. Most of the time I don't mind, but leaving earlier today felt nice.

Then I came home and took a nap.
Take a nap, wake up, still no one else home, fall back to sleep..
But I didn't fall back to sleep because then I'd sleep through the night.

Today I ate, among other things, multiple slices of pumpkin bread, a pumpkin smoothie, and a pumpkin pie shake. herro, autumn.

Meg found this quote on thoughtcatalog. We spend more time on that website than we should.

"You're given four years to study the subject of your choice, but most importantly you're given four years to study yourself. Don't get so caught up in the stuff that happens after college that you accidentally forget to enjoy what's happening right now."
Well said. I'll consider this.

And, finally.

Today in Book of Mormon we were talking about 2 Nephi 25:23. Remember how President Monson said in Conference to never postpone a prompting? I sort of did that today during class when I had a thought about this scripture, but didn't raise my hand to comment.

The verse says, "…for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do."

My professer mentioned how in the church we used to put a lot of emphasis on the last part - what we do, or our works. Our works are important, but more recently the church has been emphasizing the role Christ's grace plays as well. They really are equal in gaining salvation. We do everything we possibly can, even knowing it will never be enough. Then Christ's grace is what saves us.

My thought was something taught in my New Testament class last year. It is true that "by grace we are saved, after all we can do" but we don't need to wait until our lives are over to feel the blessings of Christ's grace. He doesn't sit and watch us struggle through life only to swoop in and save us at the last minute. He is always with us, right beside us, helping us along every step of the way.

Theee end.

Okay. I really, really love your blog. In particular, I love your comments on grace. Without it, we're nothing and the sooner in life we begin to understand that, the better.
