my disney story begins.. tomorrow!

January 06, 2013

When the Disney College Program holds presentations on campuses they have all their reps and former participants start off their part by saying, "my Disney story began in.."

Someday I'll be able to say, "my Disney story began in January 2013.." But for now, mine begins tomorrow! Well, sort of. Tomorrow I'll fly to Orlando, Tuesday morning I will officially check in at the happiest place on earth.

I still don't think it has hit me. Tomorrow I'm flying to a place I've never been to do something I've never done with people I've never met. But tons of people do that all the time. Really, I know I'll be okay.

It's interesting going into this adventure at the beginning of a new year when the rest of the world is making resolutions and setting goals. Part of me feels like I'll be too busy and overwhelmed for those things of my own, but only a little part of me. As a matter of fact I do have some goals for the year, and for my time at Disney.

Read. Too vague. I want to read the entire Book of Mormon three times this year. Once in Disney, once over the summer, and again during fall semester. ammbbiittiioouusss. I also finally bought Heaven is Here by Stephanie Nielson, which I'm really excited to read on my plane rides tomorrow. I think those alone will keep me busy enough, but I have a few others in mind just in case. Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and Jesus the Christ by James E. Talmage are two I'm excited to read this year.

Run. I'm doing RAGNAR with my cousins this summer, but I'd also like to do another half marathon before that. I'm not sure how much free time I'll have while I'm in Florida, but I want to spend at least some of it running and getting in shape again. Partly in training for these races, but also just to feel healthy again.

Serve. The Disney program I'm doing has something called VoluntEARS which I'm planning on joining. I also just want to be more mindful of the people I live with, work with, and love. I want to be there for those people, more than I have been in the past.

I've heard some people choosing one word to represent their goals or mindset for the new year. If I had to choose one, I'd be torn and choose two instead.

brave and happy.
what word would you choose?

I'm going to do my best to keep this thing updated with my Disney World adventures, for myself and for the sake of my far away family. Just know, dear readers, that you are all welcome to visit me. You're also welcome to follow my instagram (_erinray) for minute by minute pictures. hour by hour? I promise to try to keep it to a minimum so non-disney enthusiasts don't have to unfollow me. But I'll post all my pictures here! ;)

You are very brave, I wouldn't have had the guts to do it. Have so much fun! And I'm glad you are planning on training for RAGNAR... Maybe your awesomeness will help make up for my slowness!

Good luck Erin! I'm so excited for you! Going to NY to be a nanny was my "what am I doing, I'm leaving everything I know and going to a place where I don't know a single soul". But, it was one of the BEST experiences of my life!
