portland foodie report: DATE NIGHT

June 13, 2014

Lately I take Stefan on a lot of dates. (see also: I have a lot of restaurants in Portland I want to try.) No really, I take Stefan on dates where I spend our shared money because I love him! So a couple Fridays ago not only did I take him out to dinner, but I got him dessert too! Proof that I love him so muuuch.

I had heard about Por Que No? about twelve dozen times before we got around to eating there. It isn't exactly a far drive from us, but it's also definitely not walking distance. Those places within walking distance tend to win the most often.. Anyway, this place is so well loved! There was a long, long line out the door and down the sidewalk, but luckily the weather was nice and the massive amounts of outdoor seating kept things moving.

Stefan ordered the flautas, I had a chorizo taco (literally the best taco I've ever had in my life), and we shared the guacamole & salsa & housemade chips. Stefan also ordered a deeelicious fruity drink - raspberry aguas frescas - and as soon as I tasted it I regretted not getting one for myself.

So all I'm saying is that these places that show up on everybody's must do Portland lists are (so far) worth it, in my book. Long lines, but dang good food. They earn their fame, I'm telling you!

After dinner we drove home and then walked to a nearby ice cream place, Ruby Jewels. Stefan debated over all the chocolate/mint flavors, per usual. He ended up making a sandwich with double chocolate cookies and mint ice cream. The mint was extra minty, but surprisingly and refreshingly not neon green colored. Anyway, I had the raspberry chocolate in a cone! This place, like so many I've seen around town, had huge windows - basically the whole wall - that stay open all the time, weather permitting. I love that!

^^^ After I told him I didn't have the Yelp app on my phone. I do now, THANK HEAVENS.

^^^ You can't even read the sign and Stefan is holding his shirt down in the crazy wind, but I can't help myself!

I tried to download Yelp but instead I got a message that said, "Don't waste our product. You live in Central Illinois". Oh, well. Continue to enjoy Portland. I'm enjoying the posts.
