spain part uno

July 09, 2014

Stefan's family loves to travel, and this year they decided to visit Spain! It was my first trip outside the US, and we saw a lot. We stayed in southern Spain near Malaga, in a beautiful house that fit everyone. Stefan and I took about a million pictures, so these are some favorites. A few are from down time spent relaxing at the house, but most of these pictures are from our day trip to Granada.

We visited an incredible palace - The Alhambra - in Granada where we loved looking out at the view below and seeing the unbelievable details on everything - all done by hand. There is a lot of Moorish influence in that area, and it was cool to see that all the writing on the palace walls was in Arabic. I kept seeing one word/sentence/set of symbols/I don't speak Arabic everywhere in that palace, and finally I overheard one tour guide telling his group that it means "God is victorious." You can see it pretty well a couple times above the tile behind Stefan a few pictures down. Confusing directions? Sorry. One picture down there shows an old sun dial now turned into a fountain, held up by twelve animals that don't exactly look like oxen.. but we still thought it was neat from an LDS perspective.

Okay usually when there are a group of pictures like this I wouldn't post them all, but I couldn't help it! First of all I think Stefan and his oldest niece look so much alike. Second, they're both adorable. Third, I don't know if Stefan even wants to have sons ever because he just loves his three nieces so dang much. I'm kidding, of course. Boys rule. Just look at these cute pictures.

We had so much fun in Spain, and this doesn't even show half of it! One thing I'm half happy, half sad about not having pictures of is the night Stefan, his parents, brother, brother-in-law, and I all stayed up (or went to bed and then got back up.. me, that's what I did) until midnight to watch the USA vs Portugal game at a Lebanese restaurant a few blocks away from the house. I really wished I had brought the camera, until we tied Portugal and everyone was so upset that I guess they're probably happy I don't have photographic reminders of that night... Awesome food, though!

Beautiful pictures! I love the hand carved stone on all the buildings, and the fountain is pretty cool!
